Join us for a hike on the Siphon Draw Trail #53 up to the Flat Iron! This trek starts out in the Lost Dutchman State Park and offers amazing views of the Superstition Mountains, the Flat Iron and Four Peaks. More beauty awaits as you pass through Tonto National Forest and the Superstition Wilderness. The latter half provides an extremely strenuous climb to the top but is well worth the effort. We'll break for a while there before coming back down. You're encouraged to bring snacks, sun protection of some sort and must bring at least 3+ liters of water per person and sturdy hiking footwear.

Is there a good carpool location along the way (perhaps near the AZ-101 / US-60 intersection?)
Basha's
1133 N Ellsworth Rd. Mesa, AZ 85207
Southeast corner Ellsworth & Brown
If you are coming from the south get off the 202 at University and go east to Ellsworth and north on Ellsworth to Basha's
If you are coming from the west get off the 202 at Brown and go east to Ellsworth
How about Bass Pro Shop at the 202 and Dobson? It is just east of the 101 and a straight shot east on the 202 to Brown Rd , Hwy 88 and into the park.
Lets meet at 8am so we can be on our way by 8:20 at the west end of the parking lot. I am driving a white Chevy pickup and my number is 602-369-4784
Ok, Never mind. I just realized Bass Pro is way out of my way. I'll meet you at Lost Dutchman at the Siphon Draw trailhead.
I'll meet at Bass Pro at 8am. I know part of this hike is hands on climbing, but for how much of hike might poles be useful?
Poles are good for the 1st two miles and they always help my tired knees on the way back so I think they are very useful.
I would like to meet at Bass Pro also. Is there enough room for me to carpool with someone?
I could also meet at Bass Pro, I live by there. If there are enough car poolers, i can offer to take a few people in my Passat. Let me know, 480-343-6001.
Desmond and I are also meeting at Bass Pro. C you there!
I don't think so. You buy the park pass at the enterance.
This trailhead here is the state park system. The Maricopa park pass is at the county level.
I'll meet at the Bass Pro carpool, will be there before the 8:20 departure time.
Izzy and I will meet everyone at Bass Pro carpool. I can take 2 more people in my car.
Hope everyone finished and had fun. We did! We think that We were the last one down. Thanks to Eric and Matt and everyone who participated and was so nice! Yvonne and Bob
Thanks Eric for leading this hike! It was a great experience, although I may not be able to walk for a few days ;-))
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
I did this hike yesterday just to see if i could make it to the top before joining this group on the trip. You aren't lying when you say it is very difficult! I am not very fit, but i made it to the top!
